In this tutorial, you will learn how to create a blog structure inside of the BCMS. As a design guide, I will use Blog Starter and this page as an example.

If you take a look at the page you can identify:

  • page header

  • date when the blog was posted

  • blog title

  • cover image

  • blog content

  • other posts section

  • page footer

The first step is to create an account on the app.thebcms.com and create a project. After that, navigate to Templates and create a new Template, you will call it Blog.

Blog structures: Adding content types into the Blog template

This time, I will focus on page content and create a minimal header and footer, just to be able to navigate the pages.

For now, I will add only the Date and Cover image properties.

Since I want to be able to make this page SEO-friendly, I will create an SEO group and add it to the Blog template.

There is one more thing that I need to do to be able to create the Blog page that I am trying to recreate. As you can see, inside of the Blog content there is a section with text on the left and an image on the right.

I don't want to put this inside of the Template meta since this section can appear anywhere in the Blog content. To achieve this I will create a Widget called "Text and image".

In addition to this, I will need a Widget called "Image" to be able to place images inside of the content.

Now I have everything that I need to create a Blog Entry (you can look at it as a page).

As you can see there are structured parts (meta) and unstructured parts (content) of the Entry.

Meta contains all properties that we specified inside of the Template while content will contain Blog content itself.

With this done, using the BCMS API you can consume this content and display it on our website.

The blog structure is done

As you can see, creating a blog structure within BCMS is pretty easy, convenient, and fast.

It does not require special additional coding, but simply drags and pulls of BCMS pre-defined features. After a few steps, the structure is ready and the next thing to learn is how to build a blog in BCMS.

It takes a minute to start using BCMS
