Friday Office

We @BCMS work differently. There is a part of the crew that goes to the office every day, and there is another part of the crew (me, too) that work remotely.

I bet our working days are very different, the team from the office has the rules and schedule they follow, and we at home have a surplus of self-discipline (and sometimes a deficit 😅). But what we do not lack is undoubtedly creativity.

So to make my remote work more interesting, I decided to make every second Friday of the month different. For now, that means that I work from another location. (It doesn't necessarily mean that I have to travel somewhere, but in the near future, I will make it a mandatory condition).

This Friday was special because I went to the office (I think this was the third time in a year and a half), but to be crystal clear, not to work, but to participate in a serious process called #teambuilding.

The plan was to play different board games. That is what we did, but maybe playing board games sounds like an easy task to do, but it isn't. Why? First of all, 'cause we didn't have any. 😂 (Maybe sometimes we lack organization skills, too 😁).

So first half an hour, we spent googling what we could play while Bane used that time gap to go home and bring his own board game. Meanwhile, Boris and I didn't find anything useful on Google but still went with Dušan to a board game store to buy a card game that he wanted us to play (he had been writing in our Slack channel about that card game since Monday 'till Friday) even though he never played it before and even though he didn't know the rules at all.

For all that time, Momčilo was the only one who was working extra hours. (and then people say being a CEO is a piece of cake…) 😁

So after, let's say, about an hour, we were ready to start with team building. We began with Dušan's fav-never-played game-ever called, Omerta.

Omerta

Oh, damn it, did I forget to mention that Japanese whiskey was included? Sorry, my bad (whiskey was so damn strong, but at the same time so damn good); I feel terrible not mentioning it at the begging of the text. 😅

I won’t tell you how to play this game (but I will recommend you to play it), but I want to share with you one more doubt we had about the game, and it's not about the game's rules.

It was the meaning of the word “Omerta,” and in case you didn’t know what that means, here’s the Oxford dictionary definition:

Omertà /ˌəʊmɛːˈtɑː, Italian omerˈta/ noun (among the Mafia) a code of silence about criminal activity and a refusal to give evidence to the police. "Loyal to the oath of omertà."

Our version of the meaning of the word Omerta had something to do with the original French word "La merde" (pardon my French), and now while I am writing these rows, I don't understand why this was so logical to us...(I will blame whiskey 🥃).

After Omerta, we played Bane’s board games Detective Club and Dobble, and I highly recommend you play them too.

While we were playing all those board games, somehow 8 pm came, and that's when teambuilding escalated because the football match Serbia-Switzerland was starting.

Although we are not football experts, the euphoria of the World Cup in football did not escape us either (especially Momčilo, who got really annoyed for every missed chance or for every goal that kept the Serbian national team away from qualifying for the next competition.)

It should be noted that the match mentioned above was crucial for the further course of the competition.

Unfortunately, the Serbian national team lost 3-2 to Switzerland. This meant that Serbia did not continue its competition in Qatar, but also the end of our team building.

In the end, the Serbian footballers, the nation, and we at BCMS looked just like the coach of the national football team, Dragan Stojković Piksi:

Dragan Stojković Piksi

Everyone had their reasons for that facial expression, and we at BCMS less because we lost in football and more because the end of teambuilding came, and there was no whiskey left.

All in all, playing board games, watching the game, drinking whiskey, and eating dinner, isn't the ideal scenario for a #FridayOffice day?
